Unique Table Number Ideas

Jazz up your tablescapes with memorable table numbers or names that guests won’t soon forget.

Big Balloons

Suspend large, 36-inch-round balloons above your tables, attaching the number to the string. It works well if you anchor these into your centerpieces. You can stake them directly into the floral foam or tie them to a heavy washer and sink it to the bottom among the stems. Or if you want to make a serious (and obvious) statement, order giant gold Mylar numbers.

Tall Bottles

Painting your table numbers on glass bottle can prove to be multi-purpose if you fill the bottles with H2O for guests to replenish their own water glasses with.

Nautical Knots

If you’re going for a nautical theme, purchase large sailor knots made with either white or jute-colored rope. Print table names or numbers off and stand them up in the knots.

Old Wood

Cut old barn wood into small (5 inch by 5 inch, or 6 inch by x 6 inch) squares. Wood from an old fence or pallet works perfectly for this. Drill a small hole and add a peg to the back so they’ll stand on their own. Then paint your table numbers onto the wood in whatever style you desire. Kick this design up a notch by purchasing silver or brass house numbers from the hardware store and attaching those to the piece of wood.

Seed Packets

Save your seed packets in the spring and name your tables accordingly. Small, basic stands to make the packets sit upright should be available at any local craft store. If the stands are not the right color, spray paint them to match the décor.

Embroidery Hoops

With an embroidery hoop, quilting cotton, thread, and needle, you can create some serious table number magic. The fabric backing can be a fun pattern or a simple beautiful color. Don’t embroider? Enlist a friend or relative who does.

Test Their Knowledge

Name your tables after your favorite places and then use photos on each table, but unlike the examples we provided, don’t use text on the photos. The guests will have to talk to one another to determine which table is which place. It will become a game and certainly spark conversation.

Vintage Mirrors

Go hunting at garage and estate sales for vintage mirrors with ornate frames. They can be assorted sizes and shapes; some may have stands while others may need to be propped against your centerpieces. You can use either a washable white marker or some type of vinyl decal to indicate the table number on the glass.

Runners with a Purpose

Have custom linen or burlap runners made and stencil a large number or name of the table on the bit than hangs over the edge. This works best on long banquet tables, and you’ll want to be sure all tables and their runners are facing the entrance so it isn’t confusing for guests.
