The Bride: Alexis PriorThe Groom: Matt Dattoli
Wedding Date: September 19, 2009
Venue: Chesapeake Bay Beach Club
Job opportunities and a love of the salty Chesapeake brought Alexis Prior and Matt Dattoli separately to Annapolis, Maryland, in December 2007. Matt, a teacher at the U.S. Naval Academy, moved in to the vacant apartment just one floor below Alexis, an interior designer, and by New Year's Eve, the two had bonded over their love of the ocean. So on September 19, 2009, the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club, located 20 minutes outside the city where they fell in love, served as the fitting setting for the couple’s bayside nuptials.
Because of her job as an interior designer, Alexis was knew exactly what she wanted from her venue: a waterfront location with clean, simple décor. In the end, she found the well-designed indoor and outdoor spaces at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club both fresh and inspiring. From the ballroom’s water-facing wall-to-wall windows, the expansive patio’s gorgeous views, and the intimate garden where the ceremony was held, the club offered a clean, elegant slate upon which Alexis designed her event.

A post-wedding shoot with photographer, David Hartcorn, allowed Alexis and Matt to relax on the day of their celebration knowing they would have more time for photo opps. Alexis got to wear her dress again as the couple traipsed about the city of Annapolis posing in the street, along abandoned back alleys, and on a set at Hartcorn’s studio.

The couple’s color scheme of green, iridescent blue, and deep purple was loosely inspired by peacock feathers. Alexis worked with Inspired Pear, a graphic design studio that designed a formal invitation suite featuring a green floral graphic and two blue birds. They also created paper birds with guests’ names printed across them as place cards, which sat perched on the edge of each water glass.
“In search of a creative approach to table numbers, I convinced our black lab, Addy, to pose with large numbers while I photographed her," Alexis laughs. She then printed the photos and created simple table tents, which later stood center stage on each of the round tables, giving Addy an important role in the celebration.
The groomsmen set the scene for this nautical, beach club event in sharp khaki suits from J. Crew with blue and green color-matched ties in a variety of designs. Alexis chose Lazaro silk dupioni A-line dresses of deep, iridescent blue for her 'maids – a natural choice given the bayside setting – but the decision was also based upon the wedding’s striking peacock-inspired colors.

Designed by Fiona’s Cakes of Severna Park, Maryland, each tier of the couple’s outwardly simple wedding cake featured five layers of chocolate cake, dark chocolate mousse, and raspberries finished with butter cream frosting. Alexis appreciated the clean, ivory design that tied into the overall coloe scheme with a green spider mum topper and the peacock feathers that decorated the base.
