Bound by Love

The Bride: Chloe Johnson
The Groom: Matt Kanner
Date: September 10, 2011
Venue: Private Home (North Hampton, NH)

Chloe and Matt both started brand-new jobs as reporters at a small local newspaper in New Hampshire on the very same morning in early September 2005. They became quick friends, bonding over a love of writing, great books, and the outdoors. Friendship transitioned to a marriage proposal six years later, which was followed exactly one year later (to the day) by a vintage book–themed wedding near the ocean in early September.

Venue

Wanting to make sure they could return to the place where they exchanged vows, the couple turned to the backyard of Matt’s family home where guests could gaze upon the Atlantic during an outdoor cocktail hour and enjoy dinner under a gorgeous sailcloth Tent, which sat seaside.

Wedding Gown

A ruffled scoop neck, fitted bodice, satin buttons, and tiered layers of floral lace and dotted tulle comprised Chloe’s dream wedding gown purchased by her father from J. Crew’s 2010 bridal collection.

Theme

With a nod to their mutual passion for the written word, Chloe and Matt created save-the-dates that doubled as bookmarks, and the escort cards, made from old library cards, were filed alphabetically in a card catalogue refurbished by the bride.

Wedding Flowers – Bouquets

The bridesmaids carried small DIY bouquets of white tulips, pheasant feathers, and wheat. Chloe’s bridal bouquet was a loosely gathered collection of ivory ranunculus, soft pink roses, Queen Anne’s lace, and seeded eucalyptus designed by the Flower Kiosk in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Wedding Flowers – Centerpieces

Garden-inspired centerpieces comprised of yellow craspedia, ivory stock, white roses, and seeded eucalyptus spilled naturally over the edge of vintage canning jars, which sat atop a stack of three old books, which were chosen for their pretty fabric covers or romantic and relevant titles like, “The Romance of Tea and “The Ring and the Book.”

Wedding Favors

Sticking with the library theme, they gave each of their 120 guests a custom, vintage-inspired bookplate with the inscription, “From the library of" followed by a blank place to write their name(s) in. At the very bottom of the design, it read: Matt & Chloe 9-10-11.
