Danielle Leffel and Rob Goates set the goal of keeping things clean and simple for their April 2010 wedding at the Cypress Club in Spicewood, Texas – not so much in terms of the guest list that topped 300, but simply in the colors and tone of the event. The soft gray and ivory color scheme was employed to not detract from the stunning landscape surrounding the venue. Queen Anne’s lace in mason jars sat atop rustic wooden pedestals in the center of each table, while bridesmaids in simple gray dresses carried bouquets of ivy and white lisianthus. During Danielle’s vows, it began to pour rain and a guest leapt up from her seat, running down the aisle with an umbrella in hand. All at once, the couple, who had planned every detail of their wedding around a subdued and gentle color palette, was saying “I do” under a giant rainbow umbrella.

The Cypress Club Reserve at Lake Travis is located on 3.5 miles of the lake’s southern shoreline where 300 acres of rolling hills are punctuated by groves of oversized oak trees. Luckily, when the weather took a turn for the worse, Danielle and Rob had use of a tent as well as the club’s newly constructed pavilion, which features a full kitchen and bar. With 325 guests suddenly stuck in the pouring rain, the couple was relieved to find that the venue could handle the challenge.

The Jim Hjelm A-line sheath with ivory alencon lace overlay, a deep V neckline, and a champagne taffeta sash completely wooed this bride. “I saw it in a bridal magazine and fell in love. That was that,” she says. She paired it with fun, shiny flats from Seychelles and a simple pearl necklace from Target to which she added a sparkling broach.

DIY — Center of Attention
Inspired by a do-it-yourself project on one of her favorite blogs, Danielle decided to create wooden cake platesfor the centerpieces. Determined not to harm any trees, she conducted a lengthy search for the right size branch until a February storm delivered it right to her yard. “I don't even know how to use a saw,” Danielle laughs. “But Rob helps.” The cake plates were so popular that she’s now selling them in her Etsy shop, Sunday Hatch
Groom’s Gift — A Natural Choice
“Rob can pick up any instrument and play it well,” Danielle says. A versatile singer and songwriter herself, the couple often plays at friends’ weddings. Wanting to get him a gift he would enjoy forever, Danielle did her research, purchasing a Deering Goodtime Banjo.

Guests washed down the Mexican fare with sweet tea – a must-have at a Texas wedding.

Favors — Music Worth Listening To
Danielle and Rob made mix CDs as guest favors packaged in a recycled craft paper case upon which Danielle embossed a twig image. More than just a pretty package, though, the CD featured a country/folk song they wrote and recorded together, they both sang while Rob played guitar. “We’ve always been known for sharing new music with our friends, and I imagined everyone driving down the winding road away from Lake Travis listening to their gift,” Danielle explains.
