Luau Vows
The Bride: Jacqueline DanielsonThe Groom: Cameron Motz
Wedding Date: January 2, 2010
Venue: Hale Koa Hotel and Luau Garden
For Jacqueline Danielson and Cameron Motz, the first step in wedding planning was notifying their primarily mainland guests that they would have to leave winter behind; their wedding would be held near their home in Honolulu. Guests celebrated the first day of the new year at the couple’s rehearsal dinner with front-row seats to a Waikiki beach sunset followed by the wedding on January 2, at the Hale Koa Hotel and Luau Garden.
Jacqueline spent just one day visiting bridal salons in Honolulu with her maid of honor. “I tried on over 25 dresses and ironically, of course, in the end I purchased the very first dress I tried,” the bride recalls. The Maggie Sottero sweetheart strapless gown with rusched taffeta was gorgeous, comfortable, and just right for their Hawaiian wedding celebration.

The couple exchanged vows in a private gazebo framed by orange cymbidium orchids, circus roses, and green ruscus leaves under an umbrella of palms at the Hale Koa Hotel. As the newly married couple presented themselves for the first time as husband and wife, guests, decorated in white orchid leis, tossed rose petals from sweet, simple paper cones.

An island-style menu was carefully crafted offering local Hawaiian specialties, including crab legs, huli huli chicken, sautéed mahi mahi with lilikoi beurre blanc, and kalua pig. The hotel’s Luau Garden offered a spacious covered area with gorgeous views of their colorful surroundings and easily accommodated their 250 guests for dinner and dancing.

Tall water-filled cylinders with drifting Thai orchids and a single sunken rose nestled at the base in a bed of brown pebbles decorated the 30 dinner tables. Smaller vases with yellow and red circus roses surrounded each tall cylinder. The bride’s and bridesmaids’ bouquets were comprised of calla lilies and orange circus roses.
While the couple took care of necessary photo opps, guests mingled at an open bar in the Luau Garden and climbed inside a rented photo booth, creating lasting moments of their own. The couple was given a memory card of all the photos following the wedding. “It was so fun to see how the pictures progressed throughout the night – classy to hilarious,” Cameron recalls. Combined with their professional photos, there was barely a moment missed.
