Something (Out of the) Blue

The Bride: Jessica Goodwin
The Groom: Craig Kalb
Wedding Date: July 10, 2010
Venue: Private Home

When this couple set out to plan an engagement party at a friend’s neoclassic stone mansion for July 10, 2010, they had good intentions of announcing a wedding date for the following summer. But their natural spontaneity (they’ve been known to hop on a plane to the Bahamas with less than a day’s notice) got the best of them, and they turned the party into a wedding, surprising their guests during the cocktail hour.
Bridal Beauty
During the cocktail hour, Jessica prepared quietly upstairs and before walking down the aisle, slid inside a strapless, lace, mermaid La Sposa gown.

Ceremony
After screams of surprise and delight following the announcement, guests were asked to congregate outside. White rose petals were scattered to create an aisle, and the couple exchanged vows under a gazebo in the garden.

Décor
Several shades of white – alongside touches of blush pink – dominated the décor. Wedding coordinator and florist Brette Start created arrangements of white hydrangea and roses.

Favors
Atlanta in July can bring some serious heat, and the 90-degree temps that sun-soaked day were no exception. The couple provided guests with wooden, foldable fans to use throughout the celebration.
Signature Cocktail
A fresh mint mojito cooled guests’ palates in the southern, summer heat, and the same flavors found their way into mojito-infused mini-cupcakes and key lime shooters.

Entertainment
The live musical entertainment, Flavor Band, ran the genre gamut, playing the couple’s first song, Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are,” followed by a mash-up of R&B, funk, and even Jay Z’s “Empire State of Mind.”

Grand Exit
When the evening came to a close, guests lit sparklers and lined the driveway. “It was just days after the Fourth of July, and we wanted to go out with a bang,” says the bride.
