Chicago History Museum Says ‘I Do!’
Not only is the Chicago History Museum a gorgeous wedding venue with a variety of beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces in which to say “I do,” it is currently unveiling Chicago’s rich wedding history through a diverse collection of wedding garments with their exhibition, I Do! Chicago Ties the Knot. The exhibition features approximately 52 costumes and accessories including bridal and wedding party ensembles displayed alongside other wedding artifacts.
Visitors can expect to discover the origins of common wedding traditions and the meaning behind veils, bouquets, and rings, while also getting an inside look at how the industry evolved to be what it is today. “In 1924, Marshall Field & Company became the first retail store to offer a bridal registry. They realized the potential of a bride being a customer for not just one day, but a customer for life. These are the kinds of stories we hope to share through this exhibition,” says Timothy Long, curator of the exhibition.
So, if you love weddings, fashion, and the rich history of this ancient tradition, consider visiting the museum before the exhibition closes on January 3, 2011.
If you’re still in search of the perfect location for your impending nuptials, consider beginning your life together with this historic venue as a backdrop. The museum’s experienced event staff will assist you with every step of your planning.
