San Francisco City Hall is proudly referred to as the "Crown Jewel" of the city. As long ago as 1915, when the City Hall opened, Mayor James Rolph Jr. proclaimed, "I take pride in this building because it typifies the spirit of San Francisco. Three times she has been destroyed by fire, and each time she has risen more magnificently."
On January 5, 1999, this French Renaissance-style Beaux Arts landmark once again rose like the mythical phoenix. Over 15 years after the Loma Prieta earthquake shook the foundation and cracked the walls, the beautiful dome now soars 306 feet above the ground with its lovingly restored 24-carat gleaming gold for the entire city to enjoy.
One of the goals in restoring City Hall was to make it accessible to the people of San Francisco. To this end, we have opened the doors of City Hall to the public for their special events and occasions. Inside, you will find a magnificent space to hold any type of event - from simple wedding ceremonies to grand balls. We invite you to come and visit the beautifully restored City Hall and see how it can accommodate all your event needs.
