Plan your Wedding Music. Read Tips from Wedding Musicians, DJs and Wedding Entertainment Experts

Make it About You
Think of your first dance song not as a performance for your guests, but as an intimate interlude. Pick a song that speaks to you personally (it can be about the depth of your affection, your search for each other, your hopes for the future), and take these few moments to focus on each another, not on complicated dance steps. Remembe - slow, simple, and very close. It's your dance, it's your day.

Don't Overdo the "Must Play"
When selecting your wedding music, don't get too carried away with an extensive list of "must play" songs for your DJ or band. Instead, provide a list of music styles and genres you enjoy, along with a small list of up to about 15 "must plays." Too many more will force your band or DJ to select almost exclusively from your list, removing their ability to feel the crowd and go with what your guests respond to.

Double Check the Back Up
Before hiring a DJ, make sure the company has backup equipment on site - not at the office or in a truck setting up for another event. In case of an emergency, the best companies should be up and running again in no later than 10 minutes.
—John Assunto – Absolute Entertainment - Bellport, NY

Size it Up
The size of the string ensemble chosen for a wedding or any other type of social event should be determined by the number of guests at the gathering.† It is not always necessary to have a string quartet (the most popular string ensemble) if your guest list will be less than 125 persons.† A string trio, or duo may be adequate for smaller venues, at less cost than a quartet.

—George G. Stepulla - La Corda String Ensemble - Canton, MI

Go for Both
For the bride who cannot decide between a band or a DJ to lead your wedding festivities, consider a combination of both! Many bands now offer a coordinating DJ to ensure all styles of music are represented.
